How to read a paper VFR navlog
The form has two blocks. AutoNavlog prints both. Verify every number before flight.
Wind & Heading
- Dir. / Vel. — winds aloft at planned altitude, not surface wind (except for T/O and landing distance).
- TC — true course from the chart or great-circle between fixes.
- WCA — wind correction angle from the wind triangle.
- TH — true heading = TC ± WCA.
- Var. — paper convention is West positive, East negative. AutoNavlog stores WMM East-positive and flips the displayed sign.
- MH — magnetic heading = TH − stored (East-positive) variation. East is least.
Route / Time
- CHECKPOINT — the fix you are flying to on that row. TOC sits between departure and the first cruise segment when you time from takeoff.
- TAS / GS — climb rows use climb KTAS from the POH; cruise rows use interpolated cruise KTAS. TAS floors; time ceils.
- Dist — total / this leg / remaining.
- Fuel — burn this leg and remaining. Fuel flow ceils to a tenth; quantity floors.
- ETE / ETA — ETE is minutes (ceiled for the cell). ETA is clock time from Time Off UTC, not a stopwatch.
What you still write by hand
Print-only ATE, ATA, and GS ACT. stay blank for in-flight actuals. Compass deviation (CH) is omitted because there is no card — note that on the legend.
